The Peacoat (or Pea Coat) has been around since the 1800s. The jacket was first worn by the Dutch who used the word “pije” (they pronounce their j’s funny) to describe the jacket, which was used in the Dutch language to describe a coat made from coarse wool fabric.
It was the British navy who made the jackets popular. The style made it's way west and the jacket was also adopted by the U.S. Navy.
The style remains unchanged through the years. It is a viable outwear jacket for both fall and winter. This jacket is made for warmth and will certainly keep you warm on the deck of a ship in the middle of the Atlantic or a winter evening walk in the mountains of Colorado.
