The boonie hat was introduced to the United States Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, when U.S. Army Green Berets began wearing them in the field, along with Australian and Army of the Republic of Vietnam units. These hats were locally procured; the camo cloth was usually salvaged from other uniform items or with the former from a parachute or made up by the tailor. The name is derived from "boonie", the abbreviated form of boondocks (itself originally American military slang derived from Tagalog bundok, "mountain", during the Philippine-American War. Made to current U.S. military specs.

I purchased TruSpec boonie hats from Mad City- very good price and I highly recommend supporting them. I intend to purchase more from them!
I have purchased dozens of TruSpec boonie hats that I take to to Africa as valued gifts- the wide brim design is what makes them better than other brands( do not underestimate the African sun) then they have very appealing designs and colors.
The tru-spec wide brim boonie is exactly what i wanted. The brim is a full inch wider than standard boonie. Tru-specs boonies are very well made. The boonie fits perfectly. i will buy another soon.
The Boone Hat was a great buy and a great fit! I would buyit again.
